As international governments prepare for the Kabul Conference on 20th July, we call on them to implement a new plan based on Afghans’ needs and ownership, not on short term political and military objectives. It’s time to renew and increase our commitment in Afghanistan by focusing on poverty reduction.

On 26th January 2010, BAAG organised a conference to highlight Afghan perspectives on security and development in the run up to the high level London Conference on Afghanistan. The conference, 'An Alternative View: Afghan Perspectives on Development and Security' can be viewed online.

As the US and Britain decide to send more troops to Afghanistan, the British and Irish Agencies Afghanistan Group (BAAG) – a coalition of NGOs that work in Afghanistan - warns that unless there is a significant change in the way humanitarian and development aid is delivered the security situation in the war torn country and the condition of the majority of its people is unlikely to improve.
