Afghanistan: Hope Behind the Headlines

10 October 2017

Royal Geographical Society, London

Please join us for an evening in support of Afghanaid. For over thirty years, Afghanaid has worked alongside some of the poorest and most remote rural communities in Afghanistan to rebuild basic services, improve agriculture and other livelihoods, strengthen the rights of women and children, and respond to natural disasters. Despite the many persisting challenges, their projects continue to make life better for over one million Afghan men, women and children in 2017.

The evening will include a panel discussion followed by a Q&A and a silent auction, as well as an optional drinks reception with our speakers in the Map Room.

Speakers include:

Ahmed Rashid is a journalist and New York Times best-selling author of several books on Afghanistan.

Saad Mohseni is an Afghan businessman, entrepreneur and founder of Moby Media Group and Tolo TV, Afghanistan's most popular television channel.

Najieh Gholami is a reporter and television presenter with BBC Persian.

Lyse Doucet, OBE is the BBC's Chief International Correspondent and will serve as moderator of the discussion.

Silent auction items can be viewed here. Bidding will open on 26 September.
