Child Brides and Forced Marriages: An Evening with Fariba Nawa

Afghan Women in the Diaspora is joined by Award-winning Afghan American author and journalist Fariba Nawa to discuss forced and child marriages in the Afghan community.

Fariba Nawa is the author of Opium Nation: Child Brides, Drug Lords and One Woman’s Journey through Afghanistan. She reports on various issues, including refugees, human rights and the global drug trade. Her work has been widely published, including in Women In The World/New York Times, The Atlantic, Foreign Affairs, The Daily Beast, Sunday Times Magazine, San Francisco Chronicle and Mother Jones. Copies of Opium Nation will be available to purchase at the event.

John Baily and Veronica Doubleday, experts in Afghan folk music will also be joining us to make it an evening to remember.

Please note that 40% of the proceeds from the tickets sale will go towards charities supporting victims and survivors of the Kabul attack on the 31st of May 2017.
