Conference: Changing the Narrative on Afghanistan

With kind permission of The Master of Marlborough College, Afghanaid is hosting a half-day conference including a photography exhibition, discussions with leading experts on Afghanistan and a performance of Afghan music.

The first panel discussion will seek to answer: What are the prospects for a successful transition under the new Afghan government and its security forces? After a coffee break, Veronica Doubleday and John Baily will perform traditional Herati music followed by a second debate on: Who is building the new Afghanistan? Guests will be invited to a drinks reception to close the half-day event. 

Panellists include: Michael Keating, a Research Fellow at Chatham House and former UN Deputy Envoy to Afghanistan; Owen Davis, former Cultural and Political Advisor and Royal Marines Officer and recipient of the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross; Marc Leaderman, the Director of Wild Frontiers, a British tour company offering trips to Afghanistan; Jonathan Goodhand, Professor in Conflict Studies and Development Studies at SOAS; Major Declan Lynn, Educational Officer in HM Forces at the Afghan National Army Officer Academy currently training Afghan Army; Shirazuddin Siddiqi, the Afghanistan Country Director for BBC Media Action; Stewart Windeler, an analyst from The Economist; Jawed Nader, Director of British & Irish Agencies Afghanistan Group; Farhad Timuri, the Managing Director of InFrontier a private equity firm in Kabul; Andy Miller, Archaeologist and Consultant for UNESCO in Afghanistan and John Baily, Professor at Goldsmiths, UCL and Head of the Afghanistan Music Unit.
