The Taliban at War: Inside the Afghan Insurgency

13 November 2012

King's College, London

NATO and the Afghan state are battling a Taliban insurgency that shows little sign of abating.  What is driving this insurgency, and how has it evolved?

The two speakers at this event examine the key case of Helmand, where ISAF attempted to inflict a ‘strategic defeat’ on the Taliban in 2010.  They draw on a large number of original interviews with Taliban field commanders and fighters to produce the most detailed publically available picture of the Taliban at war.

Dr. Antonio Giustozzi worked at the Crisis States Research Centre (LSE) until January 2011. He served with UNAMA (United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan) in 2003-4.

Professor Theo Farrell is Vice Chair of the British International Studies Association and is a government advisor on operations in Afghanistan.

Venue: War Studies Meeting Room (K6.07), King's College
