The British Red Cross, part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, is a volunteer-led neutral humanitarian organisation that helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. It enables vulnerable people at home and overseas to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their own communities; when a crisis is over, it helps them to recover and move on with their lives. For almost 30 years, the International Committee of the Red Cross, supported by the Afghan Red Crescent Society, has run health and rehabilitation programmes, visited detainees and restored links between family members separated by conflict in Afghanistan.
