Islamic Relief Worldwide in Bamyan

HEDAW - Home Based Education for Deprived Afghan women, phase 2


The overall objective of the HEADW program extension is to deliver quality home-based literacy and numeracy education, health education and micro-business management skills to 1,800 functionally illiterate women in the remotest areas of Waras district of Bamyan province.

The project duration is two years and has been designed to be implemented in two phases. The project is funded by OR USA.


  • The project will enable these women to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Additionally they and their families will benefit from health and hygiene awareness training session (focusing on personal hygiene, sanitation in their homes, HIV/AIDS awareness, and drug awareness)
  • The women & their family will receive vocational skills training to start a micro-business needed in their own villages as a means of livelihood to support family economy.
