Where we work

BAAG's Member organisations work across a large number of Afghanistan's provinces.  Click on the provinces of the map below to see which organisations are present there and details of their programmes.

Some of our members - Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International UK, Child Soldiers International and Global Witness - operate on a nation-wide basis rather than in specific provinces.

Christian Aid in Herat

Integrated Sesame Oil Production and Marketing Development

Through the project, Christian Aid are supporting 200 farmers with provision of improved sesame seeds and training in modern techniques of sesame cultivation. The innovative aspect of the project is establishment of a sesame oil production point which will work to collect the produced sesame of the target farmers (and non-target farmers as well), produce sesame oil using a standard oil production machine and outsource the produced oil in the provincial markets using market-oriented packaging and labelling processes.

The project helps the farmers in several ways that contribute to poverty reduction. These include:

  • Farmers will see increased harvests using improved seeds and production techniques.
  • More market demand for the farmers products by the sesame oil production point
  • Increased income of the farmers that can be further used for food purchasing as well as investment for increasing farming production.
