Where we work
BAAG's Member organisations work across a large number of Afghanistan's provinces. Click on the provinces of the map below to see which organisations are present there and details of their programmes.
Some of our members - Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International UK, Child Soldiers International and Global Witness - operate on a nation-wide basis rather than in specific provinces.

Tearfund in Nangarhar
Eastern Region Community Development Programme
Designed in partnership with local communities, ERCDP is a multi-pronged approach consisting of the following components:
- Development of a sustainable animal husbandry system by providing 18 month-old heifers and one year-old goats to poor and vulnerable families as a means of income generation, improvement of dairy farming, and broader development.
- Establishment of literacy courses for adults in Pashto, one of the two official languages in the country, and in Pashai, the mother tongue of the Pashai people.
- Development of the Pashai language through Pashai primer classes, a pilot Multilingual Education (MLE) programme for Pashai children and the publishing of Pashai books and reading materials.
- Establishment of Self Help Groups (SHGs) with a group savings and loan system for small businesses. Members discuss and prioritise community needs and receive training as appropriate.
The project focuses on poor and vulnerable families including widows, orphans, disabled and illiterate people in the area, including some returning refugees according to agreed criteria.
Total direct beneficiaries: 10,187 across Nangahar and Laghman
