London rally lobbies G8 leaders on world hunger

07 June 2013

Nine BAAG member agencies will be taking part in a huge rally tomorrow at London's Hyde Park tomorrow calling for an end to hunger worldwide.

Speakers will include Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, and Nelson Mandela’s wife,  Graça Machel, a prominent campaigner on women’s and children’s rights.

The rally is part of the Enough Food for Everyone IF campaign.  The campaign aims to generate enough public pressure to put food at the top of the agenda when leaders of the world’s richest nations, the “G8” meet in Northern Ireland on 17-18 June.

The campaign points out that one in eight people across the world go hungry, and puts forward a series of solutions. To learn more about the campaign, click here

The Hyde Park event coincides with a global event in London aimed at tackling under-nutrition, co-hosted by  the UK government, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), and the Government of Brazil.

BAAG member agencies taking part in the event are Actionaid, CAFOD, CARE, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide, Islamic Relief, Mercy Corps, Tearfund and World Vision.
