Peace campaigner Mirwais Wardak on Afghans' feelings about the peace process

Mirwais Wardak knows a lot about peacebuilding efforts in Afghanistan - and the potential problems involved.

For more than 10 years, he’s been involved in peacebuilding, community development, human rights, advocacy and peace education programmes across Afghanistan and Pakistan.

He’s currently Managing Director of the Kabul-based Peace, Training and Research Organisation (PTRO).  Its recent survey Unheard Voices – Afghan Views on the Challenges of the Peace Process,  involved interviewing 5,000 people in 16 provinces, including war-torn Helmand and Kandahar.

Almost all of  those PTRO interviewed supported a  peace process or reconciliation process between the government and the Taliban.  But, as Mirwais recently told BAAG,  that support was conditional.
